Robertshaw Controls Co. Recalls Gas Controls Installed in Commercial Cooking Appliances for Fire Hazard

Dear Customers:

Robertshaw Controls Company, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), is instituting a recall of certain models of FS Flame Switches and FM Automatic Safety Valves. The FS Flame Switches and FM Automatic Safety Valves that are being recalled are installed in natural and liquid propane (LP) gas commercial cooking equipment. The recalled controls were manufactured between August 2005 through June 2006. Consumers who had cooking equipment installed or serviced prior to August 2005 are unaffected. If your range, oven, broiler, steam appliance, pasta cooker, deep fat fryer, or griddle was installed or serviced during or after August 2005, it is possible that you have an affected control.

Cooking equipment brands potentially affected include: Bari (Restaurant and Pizzeria), Blodgett, Keating (of Chicago), Southbend, Toastmaster, Vulcan, and Wolf Range. Please check your specific piece of equipment under the What Products are Involved link.

Under some circumstances, these controls may remain on when the pilot light is extinguished.  If the controls remain on with the pilot light extinguished, gas could continue to flow to the main burner of the appliance.  This can result in a gas explosion and fire which could result in severe personal injury and/or property damage.

If you believe you may have an affected appliance, please click on What Products are Involved. If you need further assistance, please call the Robertshaw toll-free number at 1.800.232.9389 from 8:30am to 5pm CST, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Please have the model and serial numbers of your appliance ready when you call Robertshaw. The model and serial numbers can be located on the manufacturer's label on the cooking appliance.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:  As with any gas appliance, if you smell gas near the appliance or in the building, immediately leave the area and call your gas company or a certified gas technician to investigate the cause.
